Bloomfield Unico

Bloomfield UNICO is a chapter of UNICO National, the largest Italian American service organization in the United States, dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the Bloomfield, NJ community. Since its charter in 1955, the organization has established itself as a cornerstone of civic engagement and charitable support, guided by the principle of "Service Above Self." The chapter operates with a clear mission: to promote Italian American culture and heritage while delivering tangible benefits to residents through scholarships, community programs, and educational initiatives.

The organization administers seven annual scholarships of $1,000 each to Bloomfield High School seniors and students from parochial high schools, providing critical financial support to deserving young people. Additionally, Bloomfield UNICO sponsors the Brian Piccolo Awards, honoring Italian American student athletes with $500 awards annually. The chapter runs a competitive 4th-grade essay contest that engages local schools and students with cash prizes and recognition plaques. Beyond academics, the organization supports mental health initiatives, youth recreation programs, and special needs communities through partnerships like the Circle of Friends, which provides social and recreational activities for special handicapped young adults.

The chapter has invested in community landmarks, including a Christopher Columbus statue dedicated on the Historic Green in 1972.
