Pittsfield Unico

Pittsfield Unico is a community service organization dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the Pittsfield, MA area and throughout Berkshire County. Founded on October 9, 1987, the organization embodies the principles of Unity, Neighborliness, Integrity, Charity, and Opportunity—values that guide every initiative undertaken by its active membership. The chapter provides comprehensive community support services including assistance to the sick and needy, while also investing in the future through educational scholarships awarded to local high school seniors and continuing education students. Operating under the national motto "Service Above Self," Pittsfield Unico maintains a strong commitment to civic engagement and community development. The organization has earned recognition as one of the Most Outstanding Chapters at the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 national conventions, demonstrating excellence in service delivery and community impact. Pittsfield Unico organizes several major fundraising events throughout the year, including the Annual Wine Tasting in April, Annual Golf Tournament in August, the Unico Berkshire County Baseball Hall of Fame celebration in November, and the Taste of Italy dinner in October. The chapter is also prominently featured in Pittsfield's nationally televised Fourth of July Parade, where members operate the parade's largest hot air balloon and participate in various capacities. Beyond local initiatives, Pittsfield Unico maintains an international sister city relationship with Cava De Tirreni, Italy, facilitating student exchanges and cultural visits. The organization actively promotes Italian Heritage Month celebrations throughout Massachusetts, with leadership playing key roles in state-level Italian American cultural activities.
